Acme IPA (12 oz) - descended from a long line of great beers produced by the Acme Brewing Co. in San Francisco in the early part of the last century - Beers like Bull Dog Ale and Englishtown Ale - Acme India Pale Ale is the newest star in the Acme crown. The style, "IPA" for short, was popularized during the reign of Queen Victoria when British breweries sent thousands of barrels of the strong, hoppy ale on the long sea voyage around the Cape of Good Hope to India. The abundance of hops and high alcohol content of the beer served to preserve it for the trip. Acme IPA is profoundly hoppy, finished with over a pound of fresh whole hops per barrel. The result of this generous hopping is a beer that is deliciously dry, and eminently drinkable in spite of its apparent strength.
